A study investigating the relationship between serum iron levels and emergency admissions in asthmatic patients found that 18.4% of the 612 pediatric asthma patients assessed had iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and 21.1% had iron deficiency (ID) without anemia. Both ID and IDA were significantly associated with higher emergency admission rates for asthma exacerbations. ID and/or IDA were identified as independent risk factors for emergency visits (OR = 1.56, CI = 1.06–2.30, p = 0.022). Regular monitoring of hemoglobin and iron levels in asthmatic patients is recommended to reduce exacerbation risks.
