This study explores the connection between regional brain iron accumulation and gene expression in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and transcriptomic data, researchers identified gene signatures linked to iron deposition in AD. These genes were enriched in biological processes like "protein phosphorylation" and "metal ion transport" and were predominantly expressed in microglia and glutamatergic neurons. Findings provide insights into transcriptional and cellular mechanisms underlying iron accumulation in AD.
