The study explores the relationship between preoperative iron metabolism markers and acute kidney injury (AKI) following cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. Using data from two hospital cohorts, it finds that serum iron (SI), ferritin (SF), transferrin (TRF), and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) show nonlinear associations with AKI risk. These findings suggest that iron metabolism could be a potential therapeutic target in preventing AKI post-surgery.
