Iron Therapy in Heart Failure: No Increased Infection Risk

Intravenous iron treatment does not increase infection risks in heart failure. In the IRONMAN trial, IV ferric derisomaltose (FDI) in patients with heart failure and iron deficiency showed a trend toward reduced hospitalizations due to infection (HR 0.76, p=0.032). There was no significant increase in infection-related death or hospitalization with FDI. The infection reduction was primarily seen in patients with TSAT <20%. These findings suggest a beneficial role of iron therapy without compromising safety.
