It is the habit not the handle that affects tooth brushing - a randomised counterbalanced cross over study

This study evaluated the impact of toothbrush handle design on toothbrushing behavior and effectiveness. Fifty participants used a commercial ergonomic toothbrush and a cylindrical-handled toothbrush (BV1) in a randomized, counterbalanced cross-over study. Video analysis and plaque assessment revealed that participants found BV1 more cumbersome but showed consistent brushing behavior with both brushes. Differences in brushing time and movements were minimal, and plaque levels were similar, except slightly more plaque remained at the crown with BV1. Overall, the toothbrush handle had a minor effect on brushing behavior and effectiveness.
