Midazolam-based IV sedation for dental treatment in patients with profound acquired brain injury is both safe and effective. A retrospective evaluation of 303 sedation episodes over seven years at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability found that 91% of treatments were successful, with minor complications occurring in 7.9% of cases. These results suggest that dentist-led IV sedation is a viable option for this patient group in specialized settings with experienced clinicians.
