The retrospective study investigates the complications of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation in 87 eyes of 83 Jordanian patients with various types of glaucoma. The most common complication was valve encapsulation, with approximately 25% of patients requiring valve revision. Younger patients, those with neovascular or congenital glaucoma, were more likely to experience AGV failure and need revision surgery. Neovascular glaucoma emerged as the most frequent indication for AGV implantation. The findings suggest that valve encapsulation might be influenced by racial and genetic factors and highlight the need for effective management of secondary causes of glaucoma in Jordan.
