Kidney Function and Metabolism During Normothermic Perfusion

This study evaluated metabolic changes and kidney injury biomarkers during ex vivo normothermic perfusion of eight deceased donor kidneys unsuitable for transplantation. Kidneys were categorized based on performance, with good performers showing improved urine output and creatinine clearance at six hours. Poor performers exhibited higher urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels. Differences in branched chain amino acid metabolism and lipid profiles were linked to kidney performance, highlighting the importance of these metabolic pathways in organ function recovery.
