A SCOPE study conducted on 1420 older adults revealed that 10.6% had sarcopenia, and 6% had severe sarcopenia. Factors independently associated with sarcopenia included older age, low BMI, impaired instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), cognitive impairment, osteoporosis, and stage 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD) defined by a non-creatinine-based equation. Severe sarcopenia showed more pronounced associations with these factors. The findings underscore the relevance of assessing and managing sarcopenia in older adults, particularly those with severe CKD, emphasizing the importance of addressing multiple contributing factors for effective patient care.
