Knowledge and Perception of Child Carers on Their Role in Infants’ First 1000 Days

The study examined the knowledge and perception of child carers in Cape Town, South Africa, regarding the "First 1000 days" initiative and their role as attachment figures. The study found that despite their lack of knowledge about the initiative, the carers considered themselves attuned and sensitive to the infants' needs, and they placed a high personal value on their work. They also recognized their role as attachment figures but felt underestimated by parents and the broader public. Home-based childcarers were particularly vulnerable, with their needs being overlooked by their employers.
