β-Lactam Antibiotics Disrupt Respiratory and Gut Microbiota in Infants

β-lactam antibiotics significantly altered oropharyngeal (OP) and fecal microbiota in infants with cystic fibrosis. Total bacterial loads and α-diversity were lower during antibiotic treatment, with notable β-diversity shifts. While microbiota partially recovered post-treatment, fecal microbiota showed less resilience than OP. Changes in antibiotic resistance genes mirrored microbial shifts.
