Lactated Ringers Use in the First 24 Hours of Hospitalization Is Associated With Improved Outcomes in 999 Patients With Acute Pancreatitis

In a multicenter prospective study involving 999 patients with acute pancreatitis (AP), researchers investigated the impact of using lactated ringers (LR) compared to normal saline for fluid administration in the first 24 hours of hospitalization. The study found that LR usage was associated with a reduced risk of developing moderately severe or severe AP, with an adjusted odds ratio of 0.52. These results suggest that LR may lead to improved AP severity outcomes. However, larger randomized clinical trials are required to confirm these findings conclusively.
