The study analyzed the impact of left atrial (LA) function on atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after catheter or surgical ablation in patients with long-standing persistent AF. Echocardiography was performed on the patients before and after the ablation procedure. The results showed that patients who maintained sinus rhythm had better LA function compared to those who experienced AF recurrence. Specifically, the sinus rhythm group exhibited higher LA emptying fraction, reservoir strain, and contractile strain, indicating improved LA function. Additionally, diastolic function was better in the sinus rhythm group. LA contractile strain at 3 months post-ablation was identified as the primary predictor of AF recurrence. Overall, the study highlighted the importance of LA function in determining the success of AF ablation procedures.

Most recommendations remain conditional because evidence certainty is low or very low in several clinical areas.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
