In studies analyzing 104, 77, 144, and 28 participants under various energy balance conditions, leptin phenotype did not influence energy expenditure, response to fasting or overfeeding, or weight fluctuations. These findings challenge the notion that leptin levels alone determine metabolic adaptations, suggesting limited utility in classifying individuals based on leptin phenotype for predicting weight regulation outcomes.
