A study investigated the correlation between nasal nitric oxide (nNO) levels and mRNA expression of NO synthase in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). 20 patients (10 CRSwNP, 10 non-CRSwNP) were included. CRSwNP patients had lower nNO levels, despite elevated mRNA expression of NO synthase. The decrease in nNO may result from inflammation-induced breakdown, not reduced enzyme activity.
