Liberal Blood Transfusion Strategy Safer for MI Patients with Anemia, Study Finds

A study of 3,504 patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and anemia found that a liberal transfusion strategy (hemoglobin <10 g/dL) was safer than a restrictive approach (<8 g/dL). Patients with baseline heart failure (HF) faced worse outcomes with restrictive transfusion, while those without HF had lower HF rates. The findings suggest liberal transfusion may be the better strategy for MI patients.
