
This study discussed the challenges faced by ICU clinicians when using mathematical models to analyze the relationship between physiological measurements and clinical outcomes. While it may seem intuitive that manipulating physiological parameters can improve patient outcomes, the construction of these models is complex and influenced by the researcher's assumptions and beliefs. Careful consideration of measurement error, confounding factors, coupling, time dependency, and causality is crucial to avoid obtaining misleading results. The study outlines these challenges and provides potential solutions to ensure accurate analysis and interpretation of these models.
