LIPUS and Drug Therapy Show Improved Outcomes for ED and CP/CPPS

A clinical trial conducted at Xiangya Hospital explored the efficacy of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). Sixty patients were randomized into three groups: LIPUS, drug therapy (tadalafil and doxazosin), and a combination of both. Results showed significant improvements in erectile function and CP/CPPS symptoms across all groups, with the combination group exhibiting the most pronounced effect. Increases in IIEF-5 scores and decreases in NIH-CPSI scores were observed, particularly in the combination group (P < 0.05). Anxiety and depression scores also improved significantly post-treatment, with no adverse events reported. The combination of LIPUS and drug therapy was deemed more effective, though long-term results remain uncertain.
