Long-Term Efficacy and Safety of Aripiprazole, Blonanserin, and Paliperidone in Schizophrenia

A study evaluated aripiprazole, blonanserin, and paliperidone over 104 weeks in patients with schizophrenia. A total of 251 patients were treated, with no significant differences in treatment discontinuation rates among the groups (aripiprazole 80.5%, blonanserin 81.2%, paliperidone 71.4%). Remission rates and safety profiles were similar across treatments. Improvements in quality of life and total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) scores were significant by Week 104 compared to baseline. Multivariable analysis indicated shorter disease duration and higher antipsychotic dosage before switching predicted higher discontinuation rates. The findings underscore the efficacy and safety of the three antipsychotics and emphasize the benefits of sustained treatment.
