Long‐term Outcomes Following Endoscopic Transnasal Surgery for Optic Neuropathy Due to Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia

This study examined the use of endoscopic transnasal optic canal decompression (ETOCD) guided by a navigation surgical system (NSS) in patients with compressive optic neuropathy (CON) caused by craniofacial fibrous dysplasia (CFD). The study followed up with the patients for at least six months after surgery. The results showed that NSS-guided ETOCD was safe and effective in promoting visual recovery in patients with CON due to CFD. Early surgical intervention was found to be crucial for long-term recovery. The study also suggested that unbalanced compression of the optic canal by a blunt bony process could be a significant factor contributing to visual impairment.
