The study investigated factors influencing the total occlusion time (TOT) needed for the amblyopic eye to achieve a normal visual acuity (VA) level of 1.0 in 58 patients with hyperopic anisometropic amblyopia. Results showed that the initial visual acuity (VA) of the amblyopic eye and the presence of microstrabismus significantly impact TOT. Patients with initial VA ≤ 0.3 required longer TOT and those with microstrabismus needed a 1.7-fold longer TOT. The study suggests that prolonged daily occlusion and early treatment initiation are crucial for patients with poor initial VA or microstrabismus to optimize amblyopia therapy during the critical period.
