The study investigated the role of Leucine-rich α2-glycoprotein (LRG) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using DSS-induced colitis in wild-type (WT) and LRG-deficient mice. LRG upregulation in colonic epithelial cells was detected early after DSS treatment. LRG-deficient mice showed less severe body weight loss and reduced leukocyte infiltration compared to WT mice. Furthermore, LRG enhanced TGF-β1-induced endoglin expression in endothelial cells, promoting leukocyte adhesion.
