The study investigates the lung bacterial microbiome in patients with severe influenza and COVID-19, with or without invasive aspergillosis. It reveals that bacterial pathogens are more common in COVID-19 patients, while aspergillosis is more frequent in influenza patients. In influenza, bacterial infections are linked to worse outcomes, particularly in those with influenza-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (IAPA), while no such association is observed in COVID-19 patients.
