Macular hole Delphi consensus statement (MHOST)

This study aimed to establish a consensus among expert vitreoretinal surgeons regarding the surgical management of Full-Thickness Macular Holes (FTMH) and Lamellar Macular Holes (LMH). A Delphi method-based questionnaire was administered to 37 surgeons from mainly European countries. In the first round, 36 items were rated, and the consensus was achieved for 10 items, including the use of intraoperative verification of PVD, OCT-based FTMH classification, and the ineffectiveness of ocriplasmin. In the second round, 18 items with moderate consensus were rated. Overall, the study revealed a high rate of disagreement and variable approaches in the diagnosis and surgical procedures for FTMH and LMH, highlighting the need for guidelines to assist surgeons in decision-making.
