The study explored the long-term relationship between maladaptive appraisals and posttraumatic stress reactions (PTSR) in survivors of the 2011 Utøya attack in Norway. Over multiple time points (14-15, 30-32, and 102-108 months post-trauma), the research found that maladaptive appraisals increased over time, while PTSR decreased from 14-15 to 30-32 months. The study revealed a strong, stable association between maladaptive appraisals and PTSR, with stable individual differences accounting for most of the relationship. The findings suggest that maladaptive appraisals can remain stable once established and continue to influence long-term PTSR outcomes.
