
A new review highlights the increased risk of heart failure and chronic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. While traditional treatments target blood sugar, blood pressure, and lipid levels, patients with well-controlled levels can still develop these conditions. Major diabetes and cardiovascular societies now recommend additional therapies, such as sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors and non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, to protect the heart and kidneys through alternative pathways. The review explores the latest recommendations for managing cardiorenal progression in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
