
Gestational caloric restriction in mice was found to disrupt DNA methylation in nephron progenitor cells, leading to impaired nephrogenesis. The study demonstrated that DNA methylation modifications were linked to reprogrammed gene expression, resulting in kidney development deficits. Methionine supplementation alleviated these impairments, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic intervention. These findings highlight the impact of maternal malnutrition on kidney development and offer insights into potential strategies for mitigating developmental deficits caused by malnutrition during pregnancy.
