Maternal mortality rates have increased, with an estimated 50 to 100 women experiencing severe complications for each maternal death. Factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and delayed childbearing contribute to these risks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that approximately one-third of pregnancy-related deaths occur during pregnancy or delivery, another third within six weeks postpartum, and the remaining 30% from six weeks to the baby's first birthday. Experts advocate for improved postpartum care and support, especially for vulnerable women, to address this concerning trend.
