Melittin inhibits tumor cell migration and enhances cisplatin sensitivity by suppressing IL‐17 signaling pathway gene LCN2 in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

Melittin, a polypeptide from bee abdomen, has been used for treating inflammatory diseases and pain relief, but its anti-tumor effects in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) were unclear. The study found that melittin inhibited CRPC cell proliferation and migration. RNA-sequence analysis revealed that melittin downregulated the Interleukin-17 (IL-17) signaling pathway gene, Lipocalin-2 (LCN2). Overexpressing LCN2 rescued tumor suppression and cisplatin sensitivity mediated by melittin. LCN2 expression was associated with metastasis in prostate cancer. In conclusion, melittin shows promise as a potential therapy for CRPC by targeting LCN2's oncogenic role. Further research could lead to its application in clinical settings.
