Despite effective treatments, a study analyzing electronic survey data highlights the underdiagnosis and undertreatment of fecal incontinence (FI). The study, involving 548 participants, mostly women, found that men and women seek care for FI at similar rates after similar symptom durations. However, gender-based differences emerged in care barriers: men faced normative thinking and limited life impact, while women dealt with avoidance, fear, and discouragement.
