Mental Health Measures in Aphasia Studies Lack Validation and Consistency

Current measures for depression, anxiety, and stress in aphasia studies vary widely, with many lacking validation for this population. A review of 36 studies identified 33 distinct measures, including proxy, language-dependent, and visual scales. Common tools like SADQ-21 and HADS-A often lack strong psychometric support. There is an urgent need for validated self-report measures tailored for people with aphasia to ensure accurate assessment of mental health outcomes.
