Meta-Analysis Reveals Incidence Trends of Chemotherapy-Related Cardiac Dysfunction in Cancer Patients

A recent meta-analysis delved into chemotherapy-related cardiac dysfunction incidence among cancer patients, aiming to elucidate its prevalence comprehensively. The study encompassed 53 relevant investigations involving 35,651 individuals. Results indicate an overall pooled incidence rate of 63.21 per 1000 person-years (95% CI: 57.28−69.14). Notably, the risk escalates within the first six months post-chemotherapy, plateauing after that over a prolonged follow-up period. Furthermore, patients aged ≥50 years exhibit significantly higher incidence rates than their younger counterparts (99.96 vs. 34.48 per 1000 person-years). Subgroup analyses also reveal elevated rates among breast cancer (72.97 per 1000 person-years), leukaemia (65.21 per 1000 person-years), and lymphoma (55.43 per 1000 person-years) patients.
