This study aimed to assess the association between changes in metabolic phenotypes and incident type 2 diabetes. The stable, metabolically healthy obesity group was associated with a higher risk of incident type 2 diabetes than the stable, metabolically healthy nonobesity (MHNO) group. This study demonstrates that it is essential to pay attention to the changes in metabolic phenotypes to prevent incident type 2 diabetes in Japanese populations.
