Metabolomics-Based Early Detection Biomarkers for Colorectal Cancer

This study identifies potential biomarkers for early colorectal cancer (CRC) detection using targeted metabolite profiling of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis revealed 302 metabolites, with five carbohydrates and organic acids (lactose, glycerol-3-phosphate, 2-hydroxyglutaric acid, isocitric acid, and citric acid) showing upregulation in CRC patients. These metabolites, when combined into a panel, demonstrated superior diagnostic efficacy compared to traditional markers. This metabolomics approach offers promising potential for early CRC screening.
