A metabolomics study in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) highlights significant differences in plasma metabolites between those with and without spontaneous echo contrast (SEC), a marker of prethrombic states. SEC was associated with metabolic dysregulation, particularly in atrial plasma, where 142 differential metabolites were identified compared to 35 in venous plasma. These findings provide insights into SEC mechanisms, suggesting therapeutic targets and preventive dietary recommendations for AF patients, such as balanced amino acid intake and reduced benzoic acid consumption.
