Metformin Linked to Better Corneal Nerve Health in Diabetes

Metformin may protect against diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A study of 72 people with type 2 diabetes found metformin users had higher corneal nerve fibre density, length (p=0.020), and fractal dimension (p=0.003) versus non-users. Additionally, dendritic cell density was lower (p=0.043), suggesting improved neuroimmune balance. These findings highlight metformin’s potential neuroprotective role in diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
