Melanoma, an aggressive skin cancer with high metastatic abilities, faces a potential breakthrough in treatment. Researchers have discovered that Snail1, a transcription factor associated with cancer and fibrosis, plays a critical role in the melanoma microenvironment, particularly in fibroblasts. Targeting Snail1 in the tumour microenvironment significantly reduces melanoma growth and lung metastases, leading to increased survival in mice. The study also highlights Snail1's role in promoting an immunosuppressive microenvironment and reducing anti-tumour immunity.
