This study explored the role of 528 microRNAs (miRNAs) in cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) using small RNA sequencing from the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of 641 community-based donors. Researchers identified 311 differentially expressed miRNAs associated with AD, with 137 remaining significant after adjusting for other age-related conditions. Pathway analyses highlighted their involvement in critical cellular processes, and Mendelian randomization suggested a causal role for 15 miRNAs, providing insights for future research.
