Middle Fossa Decompression Surgery Offers Hope for Recurrent Facial Palsy Patients

The study investigated the effectiveness of facial nerve decompression surgery in patients with recurrent facial nerve palsy. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 132 patients, and it was found that surgery led to significant improvements in facial nerve function and reduced the frequency and severity of facial palsy episodes. Audiometric outcomes did not significantly differ pre- and post-surgery. The study suggests that facial nerve decompression may be an effective treatment for reducing facial palsy episodes in patients with incomplete functional recovery.
