UROLOGY

A minimally invasive approach for inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) implantation, the MIIA, has shown promising results after a minimum 5-year follow-up. The study investigated its safety and efficacy, revealing a 94% survival rate at 3 years and 92.5% at 5 and 7 years after implantation. Complications affected 22% of patients, mainly minor events like changes in sensitivity and pain. Major complications were rare. The study demonstrated favorable functional outcomes and high patient satisfaction with the MIIA procedure. This breakthrough brings hope to patients with erectile dysfunction, ensuring safer and satisfactory long-term outcomes.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
