
Recent studies highlight the drawbacks of Le Fort I osteotomy, such as upper lip lengthening and thinning, reduced upper vermilion exposure, and nasal base enlargement. Minimally invasive approaches in surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (miSARME) aim to mitigate these issues by preserving facial soft tissues and promoting natural healing. This review explores the etiology of these aesthetic changes and discusses current concepts in miSARME techniques to enhance surgical outcomes.
