A study delves into mixed thymomas, revealing that 38.3% of resected thymomas exhibit morphologic heterogeneity. These findings shed light on the incidence and characteristics of patients with this condition, emphasizing the impact of histopathological patterns and sampling techniques on treatment decisions and survival rates. Notably, type B3-compartments were identified in 43.8% of mixed thymomas, influencing postoperative mediastinal radiotherapy. This research highlights the need for further exploration into the consequences of tumour heterogeneity on quality of life and the updating of sampling guidelines for thymic epithelial tumours.
