The modified Wurm cerclage technique significantly reduced preterm birth rates at <32 weeks compared to the McDonald technique in women with a short cervical length (≤25mm). In a study of 147 women (37% modified Wurm, 63% McDonald), those with a short cervical length had a preterm birth rate of 9% with modified Wurm vs 29% with McDonald (P = 0.042). No significant differences were found overall for preterm birth or maternal/neonatal outcomes between the groups.
