MRI Brain Injury Score Predicts Neurodevelopment in Hypoxic Infants

The study found that MRI brain injury scores were strongly associated with death or disability in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Watershed and basal ganglia injuries showed similar outcomes, with 24% of infants experiencing death or moderate/severe disability. Higher injury scores predicted a greater risk for disability in surviving infants. There was no difference in outcomes between usual and enhanced cooling methods. MRI scores are effective biomarkers for outcome prediction.
