
This prospective case-control study investigated the association between acidic pH and the formation of Mulberry-like changes of the posterior inferior nasal turbinate (MPINT). Questionnaires were used to assess reflux and sinonasal symptoms, a video endoscopy was performed to evaluate laryngeal findings, and 24-hour oropharyngeal pH monitoring was conducted to detect acidic pH levels in the pharynx. The results showed that patients with MPINT had significantly more frequent acidic pH drops, higher total time spent below pH 5.5, a greater number of prolonged events, and more total events with pH drops. These findings suggest that acidic pH in the pharynx may contribute to MPINT formation.
