A comprehensive study on Long Covid, a persisting condition post severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The study analyzed over 6500 proteins in 268 longitudinal blood serum samples up to 12 months post-infection and uncovered dysregulated activation of the complement system, a crucial immune mechanism. Long Covid patients exhibited ongoing activation of complement pathways and increased markers of hemolysis, tissue injury, and platelet activation. Machine learning identified complement and thromboinflammatory proteins as key biomarkers, suggesting avenues for diagnostic and therapeutic exploration.
