Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has shown potential in assessing myocardial tissue properties related to functional mitral regurgitation (FMR), a leading cause of valvular heart disease. A recent study explored CMR's utility in 1,414 patients with systolic dysfunction. They found that MR was associated with increased mortality, cardiac transplant, or need for LV assist devices in both ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy cases.
