Muscle MRI in Patients With Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy

A study on Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD) used quantitative MRI to assess fatty infiltration in orofacial and leg muscles over 20 months in 43 patients. Tongue, adductor magnus, and soleus displayed the highest fat fractions. Significant correlations were found between fat fraction and clinical tasks, with notable fat fraction increases in multiple muscles. The study suggests that quantitative muscle MRI is a sensitive biomarker for OPMD progression, supporting its potential use in future clinical trials.
