NAFLD Severity Raises Cardiovascular Risk in Patients with High CAD-RADS Categories on CCTA

A recent study investigated the impact of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) severity on major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). Among 341 NAFLD patients, those with moderate to severe NAFLD and Coronary Artery Disease Reporting and Data System (CAD-RADS) categories 3–5 were found to have a higher risk of MACEs. The severity of NAFLD (HR = 2.95, p = 0.001) and CAD-RADS categories 3–5 (HR = 16.31, p < 0.001) were identified as independent risk factors for MACEs. Patients with more severe NAFLD demonstrated a significantly worse prognosis than those with mild NAFLD. The combined assessment of NAFLD severity and CAD-RADS category showed strong predictive performance for MACE risk, with an area under the curve of 0.849.
