Nano-Silica Improves Resin Infiltrant for Enamel Repair

This study investigated the effects of incorporating nano-silica (NS) into resin infiltrant on water sorption, solubility, mineral density of demineralized enamel, and resin tag penetration. NS was added at 0.2% and 0.5% by weight to the resin infiltrant (ICON), creating three groups: control (ICON), ICON + 0.2, and ICON + 0.5. After 60 days of water storage, ICON + 0.5 demonstrated the lowest water sorption (12.32) and solubility (0.81), followed by ICON + 0.2. ICON showed the highest values (28.90, 7.61, respectively). Resin tag penetration decreased with NS addition, while mineral density of demineralized enamel significantly improved with ICON + 0.2 and ICON + 0.5. Incorporating NS into resin infiltrant reduced water sorption and solubility while enhancing enamel mineral density and resin infiltration.
